Game Recap

The Berkeley Lady Stags ended their region play with a 5-2 win over the Cane Bay Cobras on Friday night’s Senior Night. Seniors Calley Hicks, Michelle Kunkle, Sarah Lewis, Allison Sherman and Gabrielle Woodrum were recognized in the pregame ceremony, and the Stags made sure their seniors’ last home game was a memorable one. Scoring for the Stags opened when a shot by Jaylin Wheeler was mishandled and came loose to roll into the net. Wheeler again found the back of the net minutes later from the back post on a Carol Brayton cross. Soon after, defender Caitlin Lacey came forward for a corner kick and buried a header into the net to put the Stags up 3-0, and minutes later senior Michelle Kunkle buried another cross to put the Stags up 4-0 at the half. Cane Bay attempted a rally with a second-half goal, but freshman Shelby McCutchen answered to preserve the lead at 5-1. The Cobras tucked one in the net in the final minute, but it wasn’t enough as the Stags posted a 5-2 victory at the whistle. Berkeley ends region play with a 6-4 region record for 3rd place, and a 9-6 record on the regular season entering the final week. The Lady Stags will end their regular season play next week at Goose Creek on Tuesday and Hanahan on Wednesday, and will begin postseason play on May 1.
