Stags News · Stags highlight HSSR all-state teams

Basketball teams from Goose Creek High School and Berkeley High School and their coaches were among the big winners when the High School Sports Report announced its winter sports all-state teams.

Goose Creek girls basketball coach Tim Baldwin and Berkeley boys basketball coach Joe Wallace were named Class 5A coaches of the year while Goose Creek’s Shayla Nelson was the girls co-statewide player of the year.

The HSSR has been around since 1986. The prep sports publication will honor its latest all-state teams for basketball and wrestling at 3 p.m. on April 14 in Columbia at Seawell’s.

Six from the Berkeley County School District earned superlative honors.

Berkeley senior forward Ishan White was selected to the boys statewide all-state team while Goose Creek junior guard Aniyah Oliver and Goose Creek senior guard Ciera Shivers landed on the girls statewide all-state team.

Two more Stags reeled in all-state honors in hoops, with senior guard DJ Chisolm and senior forward Trevur Smalls making the boys Class 5A all-state squad. Goose Creek senior guard Mary Davis and senior forward Jasmine Stanley were Class 5A all-state picks.
