Boys Varsity Football · Stag’s former announcer to be honored at football stadium

Moncks Corner, SC – The Berkeley County School District is moving forward with a plan to name the press box at Berkeley High School after the late Jim Rozier.

At the May 14 Facilities and Capital Planning Committee Meeting Board member Mac McQuillin made the recommendation to name the press box at Berkeley High School the “Jim Rozier Press Box”.

“He did so may great things for our County and State,” McQuillin told News 2 . “This was one obvious way to honor his legacy.”

Jim Rozier served as Berkeley County supervisor for 16 years. He died in February.

In addition to serving the people of Berkeley County as supervisor and later as chairman of the SCDOT Commission, Rozier spent nearly 30 years as the “voice” of the Berkeley Stags.

“Jim coined some great phrases when he was announcing, which made the games that much more fun,”McQuillin said. “My personal favorite was after the Stags would score, he would say, ‘If you don’t love that, you aren’t romantic!'”

The full school board still needs to approve the committee’s recommendation.  That vote is expected in two weeks.
