The Lady Stags were on a mission of redemption in their second meeting with James Island Friday night after their first meeting with the Lady Trojans ended in a 5-1 loss. Berkeley went into the game missing two regular defenders, and James Island took advantage with two early goals while the Stags looked to find their defensive rhythm. Berkeley came back later in the first half when a long ball played by sophomore goalkeeper Izy Boykin found the foot of junior forward Shelby McCutchen, who broke away for the goal to bring the Stags within one at the half. In the second half, the Berkeley midfield stepped up the pressure, breaking up the JI possession and denying the through balls that had been so dangerous in the first half. Both teams had multiple scoring chances; a JI shot midway through the half ricocheted off the frame, and a last-seconds effort by McCutchen sailed over the goalkeeper but just wide of the goal to end the game with a second-half stalemate and a 2-1 win for the Trojans.
Berkeley will be on Spring Break in the upcoming week and will play at Cane Bay on Monday, 4/22, at Stratford on Tuesday, 4/23 and will end the regular season with Senior NIght at home vs. Cane Bay on 4/25.
